Forces: Pushes and Pulls

First grade explored pushes and pulls with an experiment from A Day in First Grade Blog. We started by talking about different forces (including Star Wars of course!). We then watched a Brain Pop on pushes, pulls, and friction. Next, we did an experiment with how pushes and pulls from a rubber band can launch a ball across the room! This took a ton of teamwork and patience but with practice everyone was able to get the ball rolling quite far! An extension of this project would be to measure how far the ball rolls, experiment with different surfaces to test friction, and use different sizes of rubber bands and weights of balls.
