Mystery Science: Forces

4th Grade also tried out Mystery Science this week. They worked through the mysteries of "How can you beat an elephant at tug-of-war?" and "How can you make a watermelon explode?"

After watching really amazing videos including a slow motion film of an exploding watermelon students worked on making their own Hoppers that use pushing and pulling forces. Students built their hoppers and launched them, measuring and recording how high they could get them to hop. They then made modifications by changing the rubber band and/or thickness of cardboard to see if they could improve their launch height.
