Rockets

Third and fifth grades are learning about forces and motion by studying rocketry in STEAM! We began by learning about Newton's Laws of Motion. Next, we learned about the parts of a rocket including the body, fins, and nose cone. We learned what each of these does to help the rocket. We next related Newton's Laws of Motion to how a rocket works- including how it launches with jet engines and how a toy pressure rocket launches.

A couple weeks ago students made straw rockets and of course, tested them out in the lab! Currently, students are working to build paper rockets for our air launcher. The plans coming up include having third grade grade design a rocket on CAD software while fifth grade will measure and digitally design new fins and a new nosecone on Tinkercad to modify and retest their paper rockets.
