Middle School STEAM

Something I've been most excited about this school year is middle school STEAM. I started a new program this year for 6th and 7th grade students and decided to try using a mastery/badge curriculum. This allows students to choose the topics that interest them, practice being independent learners, and work at their own pace. Some topics include mastering the 3D printer, hand tools, vinyl cutter, circuits, etc. While it all sounded great, and I knew how I wanted classes to run, I wasn't exactly sure how it would go in reality. It's been better than I could have imagined. Students are incredibly focused. They are collaborating. They are happy, laughing, and learning. They are working hard and learning how to find and use a variety of resources and challenge themselves. I'm having so much fun and so are they. Some projects currently being produced include bridges, catapults, vinyl stickers of hand drawn designs, 3D printed jewelry, and a light up cape. Stay tuned for more photos.
