Story Telling

K-2 Morning STEAM found unique ways to be story tellers. We spent a couple weeks making shadow boxes with enhanced LED effects. Students spent one morning creating the boxes and learning how the shadows project. They also spent some time making characters for their story. They used materials such as cardboard, popsicle sticks, and pipe cleaners. The next week, students spent time working on enhancing the setting of their story. Some students produced landscapes that would cast detailed shadows, such as mountains and buildings. Next, students wired LED lights to their characters using batteries, LEDs, and copper tape. I loved all of their stories! They were so imaginative. The box pictured below has such a wonderful masked character with a cape and LED. It looked so mysterious!

The following week, students produced stop motion animations with the 3D characters they printed earlier in the month. Students added in props such as vehicles and buildings made out of Lego. These also turned out wonderful, with creative storylines, tons of action, and they were so personalized because the students INVENTED and MADE the main character using CAD software and the 3D printer.
