Snowflake Craze

Our kindergarten and first grade students have been making all things snowflakes! We began by reading Snowflake Bentley by Jacqueline Briggs Martin. This non-fiction picture book, tells the story of William Bentley, the first person know to have photographed snowflakes. We then looked at some actual photographs he took with his microscope camera. We were fascinated to see the detail and differences in all the snowflakes. Students then made snowflakes out of pipe cleaners making sure their created flakes had six points, just like a real one!

This week, students continued to create snowflakes by making traditional ones out of paper and then GIANT snowflakes out of butcher paper! Now, here is hoping we get some winter break powder!
