Topographic Maps

4th grade has been learning about topographic maps, their importance, and how to read them. Students created a mountain out of Play-Doh, cut the mountain and traced their cross sections. This resulted in a map with many contour lines, just like a real topographic map. Students also used Lego to create an imaginary topographic map. Now, students are working to find mountains around the world of interest to them and use a program that transfers online maps into 3D designs for printing.
